Learning about Yeerk politics/society always bumps a book up a star for me.
I love that all the Animorphs (except Rachel) have one-on-one time with Ax, but the thing about this book that gives me life is that sometimes saving the world looks like being kind to someone.
YES sometimes saving the world means realizing that laws are put in place to maintain a rigid power structure that helps no one but the people in power!!! KINDNESS RULES
I absolutely agree, and see also: kindness as a weapon against the people giving it. It’s so fascinating that Seerow’s kindness is a Bad Thing, giving this double-edged-sword conversation about trust and whose hands the kindness is being given too. It’s super neat to see that dynamic happening here as a second chance with the kids/humans.
I do really hope Ax starts opening up to the kids soon, especially since he knows he can’t become a great warrior now. He has less and less to lose by trusting them with every passing book. Down with political rules! Friendship and trust prevail!
I have to agree with Adrian, AOC is a pretty badass prince. If she said jump I’d absolutely ask how high.
Also, also big nerd energy here, but my best guess at the movie is Star Trek: First Contact.
Which also deals with an advanced species meddling with humans and asks us as a viewer to grapple with the pros and cons of giving a primitive people the knowledge necessary to prevent their extinction at the cost of changing their natural progression.
I think today (most days) my prince is AOC.
